Since the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, the United States, in pursuit of greater security, changed some procedures, including the requirement that all cargo entering or passing through the country be declared via AMS and ISF. There is a lot of confusion about the difference between these documents. Both are necessary when we talk about exports to the United States and Canada.
The AMS is used for cargo that will pass through or remain in U.S. territory. ISF, on the other hand, involves the transmission of additional cargo information to U.S. authorities. The transmission of AMS and ISF to the competent authorities must be carried out by a shipping agent with an authorization called a SCAC Code.
As this topic is very important and people in Foreign Trade have many questions, we have prepared an e-book to make your daily activities easier.
